It’s Like Living

Finger Lakes Drive-In, Auburn, NY. May 2010.

On the way home from a day spent perusing the lake vineyards with B. It was the kind of day that finishes out at the season’s opening for a drive-in you didn’t know existed, with a good bottle of wine, two cheap plastic cups and no corkscrew. There’s really something vital about the improvisation and finality of pushing the cork down into the bottle, isn’t there? You get what you’re after, but it’s a little messy and there’s no going back. It’s like living, and there’s a kind of pleasure in that.
